Empowering your Type 1 Diabetes Virtual Event

Come and join us on Saturday, 9th December, 09:30-15:00 GMT.

We are thrilled to host another event in December to help you start the New Year with a bang! We will be hosting a meeting to provide information based on our lived experience of type 1 diabetes.

Who Are We?

We are individuals who have Type 1 diabetes and are experts in managing our condition using the keto diet and other lifestyle measures that make type 1 diabetes easier to manage. Carbohydrate management is important but so too is protein, physical activity, sleep, and stress. And we address these pillars of health in this meeting. By the end you will have enough information on this method of managing your diabetes to help you to decide if it is something you want to try. At the present time a keto diet is not included specifically in the guidelines but there is growing recognition that this is a safe method of controlling type 1 diabetes.

A combined 150 years of lived experience of Type1 diabetes and 25 years keto management

Reduced hypos

Reduced insulin

More time in range

An easier lifestyle.

We have all managed to transition to a keto diet and lifestyle. It has been a challenging journey. However, all of us have significantly improved diabetes control with fewer hypos, reduced insulin doses, and overall easier lifestyles. We typically aim for and achieve blood glucose in the normal range between 3.5 and 7.8 mmol./l Compared to current practices, keto diets are safer and promote wellbeing, making a significant difference in daily life.

We want to pass on our years of expertise in managing our diabetes with a keto diet to make it easier for you to transition to a keto diet and lifestyle if that is what you decide to do. We cannot give individual advice, that is between you and your clinician. However we can give you the information you need to have an effective conversation with your healthcare professional.

Ian Moseley is relatively new to the keto diet but has had T1 for 10 years. He still vividly remembers how he got started with a keto diet. He will compare his current lifestyle to his old one.
Dr. Ian Lake has a medical and scientific background with extensive knowledge of the clinical challenges posed by type 1 diabetes. He has had type 1 for 28 years, with 8 years on a keto diet and lifestyle.
Emma Porter is a well-known author and expert recipe developer who has significant experience in preparing meals for the keto diet as a person with type 1, both for everyday living and special occasions. She fits in her lifestyle with healthy eating for her young family.

Jon Furniss is a high level amateur sportsman and has expert knowledge of sports science and how it applies to keto diets in sport. He rides out with Ian Mosely on occasions. He took part in a 100 mile fasted run over 5 days and also a 500km cycle ride in a fasted state. He has been on a keto diet for 4 years and has an interesting story on managing type 1 as a sportsman.

Jane Hall-McLean was diagnosed as a young child and has converted to a keto lifestyle whilst looking for alternatives to her lifelong management. She recalls the psychological issues that carried through her life from spending time in diabetes clinics and wards at that time. She has had T1 for 50 years!

Suzanne Schneider had type 1 diagnosis as a teenager. She has experienced complications of type 1 and received a double organ transplant of a kidney and pancreas. She no longer has type 1 but is very interested in the language our clinicians use in clinics and the psychological effect it has on our behaviour. She will share her type 1 journey and talk about the results of her Masters Degree thesis on the topic of how clinical language can affect us.

Where are we meeting?

The meeting will be live streamed from 09-30-1530 GMT as a series of six talks. The slide presentations will be available for you to review afterwards.

We aim to start at 09:30 and finish by 2:30.

Look forward to seeing you there!
