Shifting Gears: Day Twelve

IMG_3284-1

Well. it’s unlikely t be a sunny day, but there’s a chance I’ll dodge the rain.

IMG_3290

A generous breakfast to start the day.

IMG_3291

I cycled over the impressive white and curving double suspension bridge for pedestrians and cyclists into France, Passerelle des Deux Rives.

The saviour of this day was the Rhône and Rhine Canal.

IMG_3293-1

The flat, smooth, and linear route going on for miles parallel to the River Rhine, with few deviations other than to criss-cross the sides to remain on the path.

IMG_3299-1

A gun emplacement otherwise known as a pill box, which would have defended the canal against the enemy in World War 2.

IMG_3300-1

Repurposing the pill box to brew a morning coffee and rest up.

In just a few minutes, many birds made their presence known. They were loud and clear in the quiet of the canal .

IMG_3305-1

Parents aggressively protecting their chicks. Lots of hissing and displaying of wings.

IMG_3307-2

Madame, off on an errand. Classic Deux Chevaux Citroen.

IMG_3311-1

Only the second puncture of the trip and thankfully the last.

IMG_3309-2

Definitely the EuroVelo 15 from the Hook of Holland to near Andermatt in Switzerland.

IMG_3321-1

The slim Jenga tower in the the Wuhrlochpark. Completed in 2022, the area translates to “The Park of the Old Weir Basin.”

IMG_3322-1

The view back to the hotel from the top.

IMG_3312-1

Someone was getting a soaking under that storm cloud, but this time it wasn’t to be me.

IMG_3314-1

Glucose for the days riding time.

IMG_3315-1

Ketones for the days ride. On the low side for no good reason.
