Shifting Gears: Day Nine

Shifting Gears: Day Nine

IMG_3159

A nicely presented breakfast spread. Obviously the bread was declined and returned. Grapes aren’t keto food as they contain a lot of sugars( carbs).

weather day9

The weather is set to be fair for the day. A welcome break form the rain and cloud.

shop window day 9

I really could have done without making a detour to this shop. Yes, my phone port was working. Yes, my cables were working. ” What else can’t I do for you, sir?”

But, whatever, I was back up and running.

A family of Grey Geese enjoying the sun and the swollen River Rhine.

Rapid, streamlined recumbent cycles were common on this stretch of the Rhine.

Push the button to reset the world. I did. It didn’t, so far.

IMG_3192-1

All part of an adventure. A second puncture and the last spare tube. The Rhine behind me was no use whatsoever.

IMG_3193-1

Thank goodness I decided to choose this charcoal filter bottle with clear sides. It doubled as the Rhine for the purposes of finding the leak in the inner tube. Make use of all of your resources.

tower day 9

The original gate tower in Worms, the end of my ride for the day. I would be dropped off here the next day to continue along my route.

martin ian day 9

My host Martin, an avid cyclist himself .

ketones day 9

Ketones in the ketosis range apart from early morning. Possibly the effect of the rapid insulin in the morning.  Nowhere near ketoacidosis during the whole trip on a keto diet,

glucose day 9

Modest glucose control. More insulin accuracy would have helped. The rise was likely the adrenaline of the morning ride, it might have been the protein in the food. But the insulin caught up by lunchtime. It is a problem driven by the insulin profile I used, long acting; overall less likely to cause hypos, but more difficult to respond to food. Just another day in the life of a type 1. There are many decisions to make on glucose and insulin management.

Succulent, with fat that melted in the mouth. Heaven.
